Faraday pouches and car relay attacks

Relay theft does not need your key in the thief’s hand. It needs your fob’s radio, extended from inside the house to the car. A Faraday pouch is the usual countermeasure when it is actually used.

The attack, in one paragraph

A keyless car looks for a fob. Two people with radios can stand between the fob and the car and carry the handshake outside. The car unlocks. The fob never left the kitchen.

A conductive pouch around the fob breaks that handshake if the pouch is closed. Distance, walls, and “I parked far away” are weaker controls than a sealed pouch next to the door.

What to buy

Buy a pouch sized for the fob, not a phone bag you will not carry to the bowl. Faraday Zone’s launch SKU is the Mission Darkness key fob pouch. SLNT and Faraday Defense belong on this page when those handles are in the shop.

What will still steal the car

Stolen physical keys, smash-and-grab, and attacks that do not need the fob radio. A pouch is one layer. It is not an immobilizer.
